FACTS
In June 2015, plaintiff April Levin, an account manager in her 30s, was terminated from her position at Minacs Group USA Inc., 10 weeks after returning from maternity leave. Levin claimed she was fired for taking her maternity leave. Levin sued Minacs Group USA Inc. Levin claimed there was no warning and the company did not go through its usual performance management process when she was terminated. Defense counsel argued that Levin was discharged for creating a hostile work environment and for her unprofessional workplace behavior. Counsel also contended that co-workers complained that Levin was unprepared at client meetings and undermined their work in front of clients., Levin was terminated form her position in June 2015. She had been employed with the company for approximately 10 years. Levin sought recovery of approximately $1.2 million in total lost earnings and an unspecified amount of damages for alleged emotional distress.
