On Sept. 15, 2009, the plaintiff, 56, an administrator, walked across a carpeted area of a hospital that transitioned to a tile floor. However, as she stepped from the carpet to the tile floor, she slipped and fell. The plaintiff sued the hospital, and the hospital’s operator. She alleged that the defendants failed to place adequate warning sings about a dangerous condition. The plaintiff claimed that an employee of the hospital recently shampooed the carpet in the area, but negligently placed wet floor signs. She claimed that an additional sign should have been placed near where she fell and that absorbent mats should have been placed on the tile floor at the threshold of the carpet. The plaintiff further claimed that the defendants failed to properly train its employee and properly schedule the cleaning activities. The defendants claimed that wet floor signs were properly placed., The plaintiff suffered a ligament injury to her left knee, which had been previously replaced by an artificial knee joint, six years prior.
