FACTS
On Sept. 5, 2010, at approximately 5:30 p.m., plaintiff Jessie Ligue, 31, was driving her 2005 Scion Xa on southbound Fulton Avenue, in Sherman Oaks, when a 2008 Honda CRV sport utility vehicle operated by Naomi Trantu crossed two lanes of traffic directly in front of Ligue. A collision occurred, and Ligue claimed to her neck and back. Ligue sued Trantu and the registered owner of the SUV, Suzanne Nguyen. Ligue alleged that Trantu was negligent in the operation of the SUV and that Nguyen was vicariously liable for Trantu’s actions. Ligue contended that Trantu exited an eastbound alley and made an unsafe left turn onto Fulton Avenue. She claimed that as a result of Trantu’s actions, she was unable to avoid the SUV, resulting in a severe collision between the vehicles. The defendants denied liability for over three years before finally admitting liability two weeks before trial, following the deposition of Trantu., Ligue claimed moderate soft-tissue to her neck and back. She also claimed her vehicle was declared a total loss after it was determined that it sustained over $8,000 in damage as a result of the accident. Plaintiff’s counsel noted that the defendants’ vehicle also had over $8,000 in damage. Defense counsel disputed Ligue’s and damages.
