FACTS
On Oct. 31, 2016, plaintiff Aysha Ali, 50, was walking on a sidewalk along York Boulevard, between 48th Avenue and 45th Avenue, in Los Angeles, when she tripped and fell. Ali claimed to her right knee and face. Ali sued the owner and maintainer of the sidewalk, the city of Los Angeles, alleging that city failed to timely repair and/or maintain the sidewalk, creating a dangerous condition. Ali’s counsel contended that the sidewalk was poorly maintained by the city., Ali sustained a partial tear of the right knee’s meniscus and abrasions to her nose. She presented to an Urgent Care facility that day and underwent an MRI, which revealed the tear. Ali ultimately underwent a few months of physical therapy. Ali claimed the abrasions resulted in scarring on her nose. Ali sought recovery of past medical costs, and damages for her past and future pain and suffering.
