FACTS
On Dec. 8, 2010, plaintiff Lewis Hunt, 48, a telecommunications specialist, was driving on Arneill Road in Ventura, approaching the intersection with Las Posas Road, when he was rear-ended by a vehicle operated by Lanette Jue. Hunt claimed to his neck, back, and both arms. Hunt sued Jue, alleging the defendant was negligent in the operation of her vehicle., Hunt claimed he suffered numbness and pain in both arms, as well as pain in his back and neck, as a result of the crash. He subsequently underwent MRIs, which revealed cervical disc herniations at the C4-5 and C5-6 levels. Hunt underwent a right-sided microdecompression at C4-5 and C5-6, as well as a partial laminectomy, microdissection, and cauda equina and nerve root retraction. Hunt claimed he suffers ongoing pain and discomfort in his lower back. He alleged that as a result, he requires surgery on his lumbar spine. Thus, Hunt sought recovery of approximately $260,000 in past medical costs, $31,673.60 in past lost earnings, and an unspecified amount of damages for his past and future pain and suffering.
