FACTS
In 2010, the claimants, three women, worked at Addressers, a printing, mailing and fulfillment company. The women claimed that they began to be subjected to unwelcome touching, sexual comments and derogatory statements at Addressers’ North Hollywood facility. The company later moved its facility to Paramount. After the initial charges, at least three additional women claimed that they were also subjected to inappropriate behavior. The women claimed that the company failed to adequately respond to their complaints of discrimination made against one of their supervisors and that, after making their complaints, they were retaliated against in the form of being denied work hours and/or being subjected to harassment. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, acting in the women’s behalf, sued Addressers’ operator, Sierra Creative Systems Inc., alleging that its actions constituted violations of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Representatives of Sierra Creative Systems denied receiving any notice of any complaints of the alleged conduct., The EEOC sought recovery for the claimants’ past and future loss of income due to the alleged loss of work hours, and for the claimants’ past and future emotional distress.
